What We Do

ZigZu is an AI-powered English reading coach for Indian children ages 4–8. A child picks a storybook, reads it aloud, and ZigZu listens — word by word — providing real-time, gentle feedback on pronunciation the way a patient tutor would.

Most Indian reading apps ask children to tap or drag. ZigZu asks them to speak. That difference matters: reading fluency is built through practice with your voice, not your finger.

Why We Built It

India has a reading crisis hidden in plain sight. The ASER 2023 report found that despite near-universal school enrollment, most children finish Class 3 without being able to read basic English. The problem isn't intelligence or effort — it's that school instruction moves too fast for phonics to stick, and most families don't have a fluent English speaker at home to practice with.

ZigZu is that patient, always-available English-speaking presence — available on any Android or iOS device, without a tutor fee, at any hour.

Our Approach

We follow the Science of Reading — the body of research converging on how children actually learn to decode, comprehend, and love reading. Specifically:

• Systematic phonics — teaching sound-letter relationships in a structured sequence, not by memorising whole words
• Read-aloud fluency practice — the most reliable way to build both pronunciation accuracy and reading speed
• Real-time corrective feedback — catching errors at the moment they happen, not after the session ends
• India-aware content — storybooks and vocabulary calibrated for Indian children, not imported from UK or US curricula
